IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NIGEL MARVEN SHARES HIS PASSION FOR WILD FAITHFUL FRIENDS ON ANIMAL PLANET, AND WHY OUR WORLD BENEFITS FROM THEIR EXISTENCE Drs. Foster & Smith Faithful Friends' Co-Host & Kid Reporter Electra Mustaine and Nigel Marven share important and fun facts about wild animals (New York, NY) January 22, 2009 -- Nigel Marven, naturalist, researcher and wildlife expert, is hosting the Itty Bitty Buddy show on Animal Planet’s ‘Faithful Friends’ presented by Doctors Foster & Smith Pet Supplies this Saturday at 9:00 am. The producers wanted a wildlife expert that could relate to pet parents and children alike, an expert with un-dwarfed enthusiasm and a passion for creatures that are often unloved or unnoticed. After watching Nigel’s passion, in real time on the set, the producers of Faithful Friends immediately asked him to Co-Host the new segment “Did You Know This” with Co-Host and Kid Reporter Electra Mustaine; daughter of legend rocker Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. "It was fun to have Nigel teach me about unique animals in the wild. He travels the world helping these amazing creatures, and then shares interesting things with everybody" stated Electra Mustaine, who added, "Getting to report on his adventures, and share his funny facts helped me understand why great and small wild animals are so important to love and protect. I hope everyone has fun watching us on Animal Planet's 'Faithful Friends,' and shares Nigel’s passion with their friends and family." When Nigel talks to kids he knows what they are thinking, at the age of eight he was running a hamster colony and racing stick insects along his mother’s clothesline by the time he was nine. By his teens he was keeping a caiman, magpie and boa constrictors in his parents’ house. He even saved a freshwater eel from being jellied, housing it in the bathtub. On the set with Faithful Friends Host Wanda Goldberg, Nigel moves actively about with every type of wild animal naturally. He is seen with a fifteen foot Python, a recently rescued opossum and Iguana, two dozen mice and even an one inch poisonous dart frog originally used for its’ venom for blowdart hunting in the jungles of Central and South America. And, Nigel’s quick wit was unleashed as he demonstrated how Electra’s weight could be held by a full size Ostrich egg and then stated “It can hold the weight of a full size man” as he stood on it, it burst, Nigel added “In my whole life I have never seen this happen.” Immediately, the Doctors Foster & Smith staff, cast and crew of 55 broke into laughter! Nigel joked “Electra the YOKES is on you!” In addition to fun and laughs, the show draws from Nigel’s in depth knowledge as a Botanist and Zoologist. It also provides information on keeping and handling snakes, lizards, turtles and frogs.. Nigel’s passion and interest in the natural world and that of being a researcher of this world proves to be a wonderful addition to Season 2 of Faithful Friends. “When Nigel said ‘Tony’ do you know where I can go bird watching in the area, speaking of Bonsall, California, I knew he was right for our show” stated Tony Loiacono, Creator and Executive Producer of Faithful Friends. He added, “From the moment Nigel stepped on the set, he was part of the team, he showed unconditional love for every animal and a level of energy that complimented our cast. We are blessed to be working with this wonderful man of nature.” Not to be outdone for Season 2, resident Groomer of Drs. Foster and Smith Faithful Friends, Kathleen Sepulveda (Former “Groomer Has It” Star) treats a pair of Bearded Dragons to a more "colorful" side. Watch as this fearless couple goes from a spa sauna to a pedicure to be finished with a custom color job. All will be amazed what a wonderful, safe and fun transformation can be enjoyed with these wonderful Itty Bitty Buddies. And, it has never before been seen on TV. "Appearing on Faithful Friends with Wanda, Electra, Tony and crew was the most fun I've ever had on a film set. My favorite animals are slimy or scaly and it was great sharing this passion with kids and parents contemplating buying a pet lizard, snake or frog.” Said Nigel Marven, who added, “Reptiles and amphibians should be admired and respected, not feared or loathed. In captivity they can be perfect itty bitty buddies, and they're our friends in the wild too, controlling rodents that eat our crops, or snapping up mosquitoes and insects that can plague us." -###- About Doctors Foster and Smith: Doctors Foster and Smith, a privately owned company, is the #1 catalog and online seller of pet supplies and pharmaceuticals in the industry.
